In the years before I got chickens I researched them for size, temperament, feather color and pattern and egg laying ability. But when I got the the point where I actually got chickens, I got a little caught up with egg shell colors.
It was a a wonderful discovery to learn that egg shells did not just have to be white or brown. I mean ‘brown’ can take on so many hues and saturations, there’s much to think about there. But I discovered chicken egg shells could be blue, green, olive or many other variations.
And, of course, I just had to have color!
Today I have among my more colorful egg layers, Easter Eggers (think chicken mutts that can lay eggs with colors blue, green or even a bit pink), True Blue Whittings, and a Welsummer for darker, Terracotta colored eggs with (supposedly) dark speckles.
