Sorghum

I am growing more of this grain than anything else right now. It’s an easy grower for me. It’s good in drought and poor soil which I generally have plenty of. In the grass family and related to corn, sorghum is a very small grain. One plant can produce enough seed to plant an acre. Where I live, Sorghum grows until November so I can get multiple seed heads per stalk.

I use sorghum in baking, typically substituting about one-fourth of the wheat flour for sorghum. Sorghum does not have any gluten so that may be a plus for some. Sorghum flour makes great pancakes. I’m looking to make a cake with 100% soon.

Decent protein for a grain and some B vitamins and minerals. This is a grain more folks should consider for their gardens.
